As much as the next person, I’m always looking for ways to reduce my expenses. Like for instance, waiting for end-of-the-season sales to shop for clothes, not turning the air condition on until it’s too hot, installing LEDs all around my home cause it’s more cost-effective… – you get the picture. But what I’ve never realized until recently is that hygiene products can end up sapping your budget. Just try writing down for a month how much you spend on your toiletries. This toothbrush, that shampoo, those soft 3 ply tissue paper toilet rolls – and the dollars quickly slip away without you realizing where they went. Unless you shop the smart way. I give you the following simple tricks that can easily cut back your personal hygiene expenses.
Buy in Bulk
Buying in bulk never occurs to the average homeowner. After all, isn’t that something businesses do? But purchasing some of the items you frequently use in bulk can allow you to take advantage of some sweet discounts and wholesale deals. If you thought that a 3 ply tissue paper toilet brand is just not worth it, buying it in bulk can end up costing you as much as regular 1 ply rolls. Not to mention how you won’t have to worry about running out of toilet paper for at least a couple of months. The same can be done with other personal care essentials such as soap and toothpaste.
Give Lesser Known Brands a Chance
As consumers, we tend to stick to popular brands and distrust those we know little about. But well- known brands also tend to have products that cost more, which isn’t necessarily always a sign of higher quality. In fact, sometimes a lesser known brand can offer you the same quality for a fraction of the price. For instance, I’ve used over a dozen different soap brands (both expensive and inexpensive ones) and haven’t noticed much difference. Just give an inexpensive brand a chance and see how it works for you.
Use Products Wisely
We’re wasting more perfectly good products than we realize. For years I thought that I need to put as much toothpaste on my toothbrush like they do in the commercials. While it did make my mouth feel too dry, I continued doing this thinking that’s the way it’s supposed to be done. But in reality, a pea sized amount of toothpaste works just fine. In fact, using too much toothpaste can be damaging to your teeth. In addition, toothpaste isn’t the only personal care product we tend to use too much of. The same goes for soap, shampoo, and laundry detergent as well. Being mindful of the amount of product you use can definitely help you save some cash.
